Race For Your Love ~
By: Race Diva 08
DISCLAIMER: I don’t not own any of
these people (especially dale jr.) except Janet Michaels, Steven White. New Scene and DanceCity are my own clubs. Not really, just in the story.
SUMMARY: Different events shape the life of Dale Jr. and Janet
Michaels
NOTE: Sometimes I say Dale and sometimes I say Junior, just
remember it is the same person.
PROLOGUE:
We’ve been friends since we were five years old. He was the one
that convinced me that I was not going to sink in the sandbox and sat in there
and played with me. His dad adored me. “Dale, when you get older, I want you to
find a woman like Janet” he used to say. Now that we’re older, we’ve become
best friends. When Dale’s dad died I was the only one he could rely on and talk
to. He told me all of his feelings and how he never was that close to his
father. “Janet, you’re the only one who understands me; I love you” he said.
But not the way I loved him. After that we tried to keep in touch as much as we
could.
CHAPTER 1: HOLD ON
“Janet, hurry up. I shouldn’t have asked you to come, you take to
damn long” Dale said.
“Shut up, I’m coming dammit” I replied.
“That was an over share.” He said sarcastically.
“Whatever, I’m ready.”
I come out wearing a short sparkling black dress with a low-neck
line.
“Wow, looks like I’m going to have to beat up some guys tonight.”
“No you won’t because if they try anything I will.”
“I don’t doubt that”
We arrive at the NASCAR banquet together as friends not as a
couple. There was some people outside doing media.
“Here we have Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and his date. What is your name
sweetheart?”
“Janet Michaels”
“So are you two dating?”
Dale is quick to answer. “No, we’re friends.” Too
quick as far as I’m concerned.
They ask us a few more questions and we head inside. We are
sitting in front of Kevin and DeLana Harvick. I got into a conversation with
DeLana and Junior chatted with Kevin.
“So was it hard for you to write your speech” Kevin asked.
“No, I got some help from Jade and other people” Dale answered.
“Oh, like from your pretty girlfriend over there”
“Who? Oh, you mean Janet. I’ve known her to long to even go there with
her.”
“I don’t know why man, she is pretty hot. I know if I wasn’t
married I’d go after her in a heartbeat.”
“Yes, but you are married, happily, so keep your hands and eyes
off of Janet”
“Is someone jealous that I may be pushing up against his
‘friend’?”
“No, not jealous just protective. I don’t want to see her get hurt.”
“Well, if you don’t want her to get hurt why don’t
you make her your girl so you don’t have to worry about that”
Dale just stared at Kevin after that last comment. He didn’t have
a chance to respond because the show was beginning. We took out seats and
braced ourselves for a long night.
“Hey look you’re up next” I said to Junior, but he seemed to be in
his own little world. Dale was still thinking about the comment that Kevin had
made to him. ‘I just wish that it was all that simple’ Dale thought. ‘I don’t
even think that Janet likes me in that way’ He soon regained focus, turned to
me and smiled. After they finished the overview of his season, he went up and
said his thanks. I know he did not just say ‘shiznit’
on the stage. Everyone laughed at that comment, well everyone under 30. The
others were looking around like ‘what does that mean?’ The rest of the night
was pretty boring except Tony Stewart expressing his fondness of his head and
neck restraint? It also got emotional when Garth Brooks came and sung “The
Dance” and Teresa accepted Dale Sr.’s most popular driver award.
CHAPTER 2: AFTERPARTY
Instead of hanging out with the NASCAR crowd, we decided to go to
the hotel change into some party clothes and go clubbin’.
“So where do you want to go?” I asked.
“How about DanceCity?” He said.
“No, we’re going to New Scene.”
“Why do you ask then?”
“Just being nice” I smile in his direction and he just rolls his
eyes.
We arrive at the club and decide to split up to scope out some
honeys.
“Hey, how are you doing” this guy asks from behind me.
“I’m doing just fine” I say in a tone that I hope would drive him
away. He doesn’t get the message.
“Can I buy you a drink?”
“No that is quite all right”
“A sex on the beach for the lady”
“Alright” I sigh. What can one little drink hurt?
The man turns to me and asks “are you here alone?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“Well, who is that man you came in with?”
“Who? Dale? Oh, he is just my friend.” How can I say that with a smile
on my face?
“ Oh, I figured seeing how popular he is” He points over my shoulder
and there is Dale surrounded by many girls on the dance floor. Jealousy ran
right through my veins. I looked over to my new friend and asked him if he
wanted to dance. I made sure I was right in Dale’s eyesight. The DJ put on
“Shake Ya Ass” by Mystikal
and boy was I shaking my ass. I had my partner in a daze. I then turned around
so I could see Dale. When I turned he was staring right at my dancing partner
and me. He had stopped flirting with all those other girls and couldn’t take
his eyes off of me. It was then I saw the unmistakable look in his eyes. JEALOUSY. He was jealous. He wanted to be the one I was
dancing with. He dismissed all of his ‘friends’ after the song was over and
made his way over to where I was standing.
“Come on, Janet, let’s go” he said. His voice was boiling with
anger.
“Hey, maybe, she doesn’t want to leave yet” my friend said.
“No, it’s okay I’m ready to go” I said
quickly. I don’t want the man to get hurt and I’ve seen Dale this way before
and the ending sight is never pretty. “Thanks for the dance”
“No problem.”
Dale grabbed my hand and gave my friend the classic Earnhardt
glare before dragging me out of the club. As he was pulling me out of the club,
I had a slight smile on my face. Maybe someone feels the same way I do and is
keeping it a secret.
CHAPTER 3: THE HOTEL
“That was fun, wasn’t it” I said
“No” his voice was cold. “All those people there were jaded and
uptight.”
“Yeah, but it was still fun. I thought that there was some envy
going around too”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” he said looking out the
window.
The rest of the ride was made in silence. We arrived to the hotel
and went up to our room. It was the penthouse suite so it had to separate
bedrooms.
“I’m going to bed”
“Dale, are you mad at me?”
He sighed, “No, why would you say that?”
“Because you really haven’t said anything to me since we left the
club and when you did speak to me it was harsh”
“It’s just that Janet...I...I need to..
“He paused. “You shouldn’t have been dancing like that”
“What!?” Talk about an unexpected response.
“You were dancing and prancing around like a whore”
I know he just didn’t. “Excuse me?”
“I mean, Janet, I thought you had more class than that. Dancing
all up on that guy because he bought you one motherfuckin’
drink.” He yelled.
“What is you problem? I screamed. “You
don’t hear me talkin’ about all those hoes that were
surrounding you on the dance floor.”
“You shouldn’t have because it is none of your damn business.” He
shot back.
“Oh, but me dancing with a guy is yours.”
“He was just trying to sleep with you.”
“What? Is that what you were using those girls for?”
Silence.
“Oh, the same reason.”
He turned serious. “Look, the bottom line is that I don’t want to
see you get hurt.”
“Thanks dad, but I can take care of myself” With that I turned on
my heel and went into my room slamming the door behind me. If this was his way
of showing how he cared for me it was damn confusing. I stayed in my room the
rest of the night. Dale didn’t go to bed until late, I
could hear him pacing in the living room of the suite.
CHAPTER 4: THE NEXT DAY
“Hey, J. How did you sleep?
“Fine, considering I had a huge headache”
“Janet about last night” he started.
I cut him off. “Don’t worry about it”
“No, I overreacted. I know how guys are. They are dogs, plain and
simple. I know because I am one.”
“Yea, you are” I joked.
“Thanks for the compliment”. He gave me that smile that always
made my heart sink. His eyes would twinkle and light up. Then I looked down. I
think I’m going to faint. I noticed that he was only wearing a pair of black
Budweiser boxers. I stare at him for what seems like forever until I hear
someone talking to me.
“Janet, are you okay?” he asks me. He noticed I was staring at him
and is going to milk it for all it’s worth.
“Do you see something you like?” He asks in a seductive tone.
“Huh...what...no” I stammer.
“Are you sure? I could give you sneak peak” he says as he gets up
and walks toward me.
My breath catches in my throat. “I don’t know what you are talking
about” I lie.
“I see you eyeing my goods, now Janet if you want to see it up
close and personal all you have to do is ask.” He is standing right in front of
me and is staring into my eyes. I don’t know what to say I’m in shock. I can’t
believe all this is happening, am I dreaming? I look
up, Dale is still looking at me, and he is obviously waiting for me to say or
do something. I look around. My hands start to fidget and I do what I’ve wanted
to do for years. I stand up and he rises, I look into his eyes and kiss him. I
press my lips to his softly; he is stiff for a second but then melts into the
kiss. I slip my tongue into his mouth and he catches it with his own. After a
few seconds, we break the kiss.
“I’m sorry I don’t know what came over me.” I say in a hurry.
Dale just stands there with a shocked look on his face. He doesn’t
say anything. My eyes begin to tear up and I start to walk off. I’m stopped
when Dale grabs my arm and reaches down and kisses me again. This time it’s
more passionate. We break apart and now it is my turn to be shocked.
“What” he says. “Did you think you were the only one with hidden
feelings?”
“Well, I never knew. I just thought I was the only one who felt
that way”
“Janet, how could you not know. Men
aren’t nice to women because they want to be friends.”
I give him a look. “Well, that is except you and me” he says
quickly. “We’ve been friends since we were five and I really wasn’t thinking
about girls at the time. I mean it wasn’t until junior high that I began to
like you as more than a friend”
“Me, too” I say, still unsure of whether this is really happening
or not. There is a long pause. He lowers his face down to mine and kisses me
again. His soft lips touch mine and I’m lost in time. Very quickly the kisses
turn more passionate and we fall back on the couch. I run my hands up and down
his back and chest. He begins to slip down the strings of my gown but stops and
looks at me.
“Janet, are you sure you want to do this?”
I kiss him forcibly. “I’ve wanted to do this for awhile. So quit
hesitating and make love to me”
He looks down at me with an unsure look on his face. “I don’t
think this is right. We only professed we liked each other a few moments ago
and plus it could ruin our friendship forever if it doesn’t work out.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” I say. I didn’t want to stop. I
needed and wanted him right then, but he was right we needed to talk about all
the details before we went any further.
Later on that day we went shopping before it was time for us to go
back home. We decided against the limo in order to look more like normal
people. We took a cab to this hip, trendy NYC market. I found this cute leather
skirt that you lace together on the sides. I picked it out mostly because Dale
said I’d look ‘hot’ in them. We shopped around some more until people started
to realize who Dale was. At the hotel we packed up our things and headed back
to Mooresville. On the plane ride we didn’t say much about the relationship
deciding that it would be better to sit and talk about it on level ground.
CHAPTER 5: HOME SWEET HOME
It is now the off-season. Thank you. I’m glad too because Dale
looked so worn out. Dale and I live close to each other in Mooresville. I live
about two blocks away. Sometimes when he had parties people would park at my
house, and walk over to Club E. Right now my house is being remodeled and I
have to live with him for awhile. Weird change of events, every since what
happened in
“Janet, what did you do to my house?” He said sounding slightly
annoyed.
“I fixed it up a little, Junior”
“Why, I liked my mess the way it was.” His voice was beginning to
rise.
“I was just trying to help” I reply weakly.
“Look, I do not know what you think this is but it is not your
little love shack” he said clearly irritated. “After your house is finished,
you are moving back out so I don’t need you to changing all my shit around”
“I’m sorry” I say, not quite sure as to why he is acting like
this.
“I know that after what happened at the hotel, you think that we
are going to get married right away and have bunches of kids, but I’m not ready
for that yet. So I don’t need you coming into my home and putting your stamp on
everything that I own.” He takes a deep breath and his voice turns soft. “This
relationship between you and me would never work anyway. So I think it would be
better if we were just friends. We have no reason to mess up a good thing.”
‘After what happened at the hotel’ I think. ‘We should just be
friends’. We never got a chance to really talk about that our kiss but it seems
that Junior has already made up his mind. My mind is in a state of confusion.
This can’t be the same man who told me delicately that he didn’t want to see me
get hurt or that he feels the same way as I do about him. I turn to look at
him; he is staring at me with a soft look upon his face.
“You know what Junior, you are right. I
had no right coming into your home and changing all of your things around. And
we would be better of staying as just friends.” I say smiling.
“Yeah, yea I am” he mumbles sounding surprised that I agreed with
him.
“I’m just going to keep to myself till my home is finished. I’m
sorry”
“Yeah, yea. Apology accepted” He stills sounds unsure as to why I’m agreeing
with him.
I kiss him on the cheek and I walk upstairs. Dale is left standing
there looking into space. In my mind I know that Dale still loves me and is
just scared to commit to me. He wants to play a game, and I’m a willing
participant. And tonight at the party, I’m going to show him what kind of
player I am.
CHAPTER 6: MIND GAMES
“Hey, J. Can you help with some of these beer cases?”
“No” I say sassy-like. “I’m too cute to be lifting beer cases”
“Thanks for your help” he says. “But if you want a place to live,
I suggest you come down here and help me with the cases.”
“Ok, alright” I say.
We take them down to the basement or Club E. He then looks me up
and down. “ I know Miss Beauty Queen is not going to
wear that to the party tonight.”
I glance down at what I’m wearing. I have on my dirty sweat pants
and a Budweiser shirt.
I joke “No I was thinking about only wearing the Budweiser
t-shirt”
“No, you are not. But maybe later you could come up to my room so
I can see” he says in a sexy tone.
“Let me think, I don’t think so.”
He looks at me with a hurt look on his face that turns into a huge
smile. I hate it when he smiles like that. He starts to stack the beer into the
cooler and now it is time for stage one of the game.
“Hey Dale. Can you do a favor for me?”
“Sure” he says without turning around
“Could you maybe introduce me to one of your friends.”
He instantly stops stacking the beer and turns to look at me.
“What?” he asks.
“I mean, you now I AM a SINGLE girl, there is
no reason for me to not try to find someone.”
He still looks at me. He sighs and says quickly “You wouldn’t like
any of my friends” and turns his attention back to his work. My plan is working
fine.
“Actually, there is one that I’ve had my eye on for awhile.”
He turns again. “Who?”
“Steven” I say. Junior did not like Steven at all. He and Dale
were not even friends. Steven was a friend of one of Dale’s friends and came
over quite often. At almost every party, Junior and Steven ended up in some
kind of argument. Dale stared at me. His blue eyes became dark and his jaw
tightened.
“You want me to introduce you to who?” He
said tightly.
“Steven. I mean if it is okay with you”
He glared at me incredulously. “ If I
think it’s okay. Hell, no it is not okay with me Janet.” He said his tone
rising with every word. “Why in the hell would you want to get into a
relationship with that jackass? He treats women like whores. He sleeps with
them and then throws them away. Is that what you want to go through?”
“Look, you’re only reacting this way because he doesn’t like you.
He is nice to me when we speak maybe he just has a problem with you”
“No, he has a problem with everyone especially women. He prances
around like he is God’s gift and all you women follow him around like he is a
king”
“Now Junior you are contradicting yourself. You are the biggest
player around here.”
“I may be a slight player, but at least I treat women with
respect.”
“Yeah, calling them after you slept with them and giving them the
same lie about how you can’t be in a relationship right now because being on
the road would put a strain on the relationship”
“It would”
“Whatever. And why are you getting so angry anyway. It is none of
your business what I do. It is not like I have any other options, you made that
pretty clear.”
“So to teach me a lesson you are going to go out with my worst
enemy”
“Dale he is not your worst enemy, you are your own worst enemy.
You are to afraid to take charge of your life and do
what is right for you.”
“That is bullshit. But I will tell you this, when he does hurt you
don’t come running back to me crying okay? Because I told you
so.” He turned and went back to his work. I ran up the stairs with tears
in my eyes. This was not how it was supposed to work out. Maybe I should forget
about Dale and go on with my life. Yeah, that is what I’m going to do starting
tonight. And starting with Steven.
CHAPTER 7: SOMEONE’S JEALOUS
I changed into a belly baring white top with long frilly sleeves,
high heel knee high boots, and of course the skirt I bought when Dale and I
went shopping in
“Need any help?” I ask. More directly to Steven
than anyone else.
“No we got everything under control.” He replies and smiles up at
me. He really is cute, I don’t know why Junior has
such a problem with him. We begin a conversation with me flirting heavily with
him.
Dale sees this and calls out to me “Hey, Janet.” I turn around.
“Could you go upstairs and see if people are arriving yet?”
He was doing everything he could to keep me away from Steven.
“Sure, okay” I replied. I look at Steven and tell him that we will ‘finish this
conversation later on tonight.”
“I’ll be looking forward to it.”
As walk to go upstairs, I glare at Junior but he just gives me
this sly smile and winks back at me. After I’m upstairs, Dale walks over to
Steven to chat with him.
“So you like Janet, huh?” Dale asks.
“Yeah she is a pretty girl.”
“Yeah she is and she is my best friend, so I’m going to warn you
right now. If you hurt her I will come after you and I will make you suffer”
Dale said within tightens lips.
Steven looked at him and grinned. “Me, hurt a lady. Now Dale you
know I would never do anything like that.” He says sarcastically.
“Do not play with me White, I will hunt your ass down and kill you
if she is scarred in anyway. I don’t like you and I don’t know why Janet is so
attracted to you. Just don’t test me.”
“Look, I don’t know what your problem is maybe your
mad because I got the girl that you want but can’t seem to get. Janet is a
grown woman with her own mind that can make her own decisions. And if you claim
to be her friend you should be supporting her. But I’ll tell you this it
wouldn’t look to pretty for you if I told her what you just told me. So Dale
don’t you test me.” Steven gave Junior one last look
and walked away.
I came back downstairs looking for Steven.
“Is anyone here yet?” Dale asked.
“Yeah, James said he would take care of the people coming.” I look
around. “Where is Steven?”
Junior looked around “I don’t know”
“What? You ran him off didn’t...” I was stopped when a pair of
strong hands wrapped around my waist.
“No need to get angry at Junior” he said. “I had to go do a couple
of things first.” He looks down at me and kisses me. This is very unexpected
but welcomed. Dale rolls his eyes and walks off.
The party has finally begun and the dance floor is packed. Steven
and I are inseparable all night. We get on the dance floor and jam for awhile
before taking a much needed break.
“Do you want anything to drink:” Steven asks.
“A bottle of water would be good.”
“Coming right up” He kisses me again before he walks off. I turn
my attention to all the people in the room. The same eyes have been watching me
all night. Dale’s eyes. He had been trying to play it
cool like he is talking to his friends and watching all the ladies go by but he
hasn’t taken his eyes off of me. Steven comes back with my water and I whisper
into his ear. “Why don’t we drop this place and go someplace where it is more quiet”
“Okay, we can go to my house it is right up the block.”
“Sounds good to me.” We say good-bye to a couple of people before we make our way out
of the house. Dale sees us leave and gets a sinking feeling in his stomach.
‘Maybe I should follow them’ he thinks. He then gets up and leaves his own
party.
CHAPTER 8: RESCUE
Steven and I walk to his house and he lets me in.
“It feels so good to be somewhere where I can here myself think” I
say.
“Yeah. We are all alone with no one staring at you.”
“You saw him too.” I ask.
“Yeah, I mean Janet. Is there or was they’re every anything going
on between you two?”
“No”
Dale made his way over to Steven’s house and was peering in
through the window. He saw them sitting on the couch chatting. Steven was
slowly inching his way closer and closer to Janet. His blood began to boil. He
saw him reach down to kiss Janet and she welcomed the kiss. His kiss became
rougher and he saw Janet trying to push him away.
“I think we need to slow down” I said.
“Why? We’re going to fuck eventually” He reaches down to kiss me
but I push him away again.
“I’m sorry but I don’t fuck anybody.”
He scoffed. “You know I am sick and tired of women always acting
like they are so damn innocent. All men know you guys want it as bad as we do.
And you are not leaving until I get some.” He reaches down again but I move out
of the way.
“Dale was right. You are a jackass.”
“Oh, Dale was right. Isn’t that just cute? He tried to warn but
what did you do. You didn’t listen to him. So now he is probably back at the club with another girl and not your dumb ass.”
He pushes me onto the couch and straddles me. I kick at him and he
smacks me.
“Don’t ever try that again, bitch” Then we hear the door bust
open.
“Steven, didn’t I tell you that if you hurt her I would kill you.
I wasn’t joking bastard” he said cold.
Steven gets off of me. “This is all your
fault. If she wasn’t so strung up on your ass I would have some pussy right
now.”
With that remark Dale punches him. He falls back onto the ground.
He gets up and swings at Dale. Luckily, Steven had had one too many drinks and
Dale wasn’t drunk. Dale easily ducked his punch and gave another one of his
own. Steven falls to the ground again and this time it doesn’t look like he is
going to be getting up anytime soon. Dale looks at me and sees that I’m in not
all completely there. He grabs my hand and we run out of the house and all the
way back to his.
CHAPTER 9: REVELATION
The house is basically empty. Many people had already went home. We go up to his room; he locks the door and I go
take a seat on his bed. Dale begins to pace the floor without saying anything
or looking up at me. I fall back onto the bed curl up into a little ball and
begin to cry. He stops pacing and gathers me up into his arms.
“Shh. Don’t
cry, baby. You didn’t do anything wrong” he
whispers in my ear and kisses my forehead.
“I should have listen to you.” I said in
between sobs.
“No, it is okay. No one would have ever expected for him to do
anything like this.” He reassures me.
“I know but still if you weren’t there to save me, he would
have...he would have...” He cuts me off.
“Don’t think about that he didn’t, okay.” Someone knocked on the
door. “I’ll be right back, it’s going to be okay, I’m
here for you.”
The person at the door was Kevin Harvick. “Dale, I just want you
to know that everyone else has left and me and DeLana are about to go home
too.”
“Okay, I’ll see you then.”
“Have a great off-season”
“I will man. And don’t forget to take DeLana on a honeymoon.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure she want let me
forget. See ya man.”
“Bye, Kevin.”
He turns his attention back to me. I look at him. “Do you want to
say I told you so?”
“No, I don’t. I’m just glad you are not hurt.”
“How could he have done this.” Dale just
looked away. “When we were talking he was so nice and sweet. I guess he was
just trying to sweeten me up.”
Dale wasn’t saying anything and I wasn’t sure if he was even
listening to me anymore. He looked as if he was in a deep thought. He lifted
his head and looked at me.
“Janet, I want to apologize to you.”
I look at him in disbelief. “Why? It is not your fault I chose to
date an asshole.”
He is still looking at me and I know he is about to get serious.
“Right now, I’m going to talk and I just need you to listen okay.”
I nod my head.
“Ok here goes.” He takes a deep breath and lets it all out.
“We have known each other for more than 22 years. We are always
there for each other. We support each other and care for each other. Ever since
we were young I felt it was my duty to protect you from all the horrible things
in the world. Tonight, I almost failed at my job and most importantly I almost
failed you. You would have never been with that jerk if I hadn’t turned you
down. I was too selfish to see that I needed you in my life. I wasn’t ready to
commit to anyone. Then after what happened to night I realized the only way I
can protect you is to get over myself and think about what is really important
to me in life and baby, that’s you.”
My eyes begin to tear up as I begin to understand what he is
telling me.
“Janet, we need to be together. We are perfect for each other. We
may have a few heated arguments, but baby what couple doesn’t. I can’t see my
future without you in it by my side. I love you Janet.”
I sit there and I don’t say anything. I’m still trying to soak in
what just happened. Dale gazes at me and then down to his feet. He is
heartbroken by my silence. He is disappointed and I can tell. I smile slightly.
“Hey” I say softly to him. I reach out and gently pull his head up
to face me. His eyes are glazed. “Sorry about the reaction. What you said kinda
caught me off guard. I agree with everything you said. I’m glad that someone
finally said it because I was scared as hell to do it myself.”
He chuckles at this and I smile back at him.
“ I also want to say that I love you, too.” I whisper.
He looks up at me and that same old twinkle is back in his eyes.
“Let’s not be so foolish ever again.” He says to me. I nod my head.
He looks into my eyes and presses his lips against mine. This kiss
is sweeter than the first. We lay down on his bed as he begins to kiss me and
massage me all over my body. He removes my clothes first then his quickly
follow. He then presses himself inside of me. A wave of pleasure rushes over
me. He is still for a second then we begin to move together as one. His pace
quickens and soon I’m over the edge. I come first and he does soon after. We
lie down next to each trying to catch our breath. He looks over at me and
smiles. “That was incredible. I love you.”
“I love you, too.” I say and kiss him softly on the tip of his
nose. We fall asleep with his arms wrapped snuggly around me.
