Proof and Marshall walk into the living room and smile and each other, when they notice the movie has changed to the Power Puff Girls.
“Done! And I feel much better.”
Marshall states, as he flops down between Hailie and Carly and smiles, as Proof
sits on a bar stool at the counter and facing them.
“Do I have any hot water left?”
Carly jokily asks, as Proof laughs, and Marshall leans back and glances at her.
“Little bit.” Marshall jokily says
with a grin on his face, as he tries to get up enough nerve to ask her out.
“Ready to go to the real park
now?” Hailie cheerfully asks, as she crawls into Marshall lap, breaking his
thoughts of how he’s going to ask Carly out.
“Baby . . . I’m sorry I have
something that has to be done. Maybe tomorrow.” Marshall sincerely says, as he
looks into Hailie’s perfect blue eyes, and for the second time today, he sees
hurt that he’s caused.
“I’m sorry.” Marshall sincerely
says, as he leans his head into hers, and she wraps her tiny arms around his
neck.
Carly tries not to stare, but it’s
hard with them sitting so close.
“That’s what you always say! We’re
never going to the real park together are we?” Hailie comments, almost in
tears.
“We’ll go to the real park
together Soon! I promise! Just not today. I have business that has to be taken
care of today. I’m truly sorry.” Marshall tries to explain, as Hailie quickly
crawls over to Carly’s lap.
Carly with a very surprised look,
glances over at Marshall who also looks surprised, as Hailie rests her hands on
Carly’s shoulders.
“Carly will you take me to the
Real Park? Today!” Hailie pleads, as Carly glances over at Marshall, then back
at Hailie.
“Aunt Barbara can take you to the
park, when I take you home.” Marshall quickly suggests.
“NO! You go to the park with an
Old Woman!” Hailie states very grown up, as she hugs Carly, resting her head on
Carly’s shoulder, on opposite side of Marshall, and Carly smoothly runs her
hand down her back.
“Hailie Jade . . . That wasn’t
nice.” Marshall says in shock, as Proof and Carly hold their breath, as
Hailie’s head shoots up, and she looks directly at Marshall with a Marshall
Bruce Mathers III, a look that could drop you dead in your spot.
“Like being Nice Is One Of Your
Specialties!” Hailie states very firmly, then gets down from Carly’s lap, and
rushes to the bedroom, slamming the door behind her.
Marshall sits stunned at Hailie’s
comment for a second, as Carly and Proof sit in shock with their jaws dropped
knowing not to say a thing, but both trying to figure out which Mathers was
going to win, but do they really want to be around to see the outcome.
Marshall very calmly gets up and
goes into the bedroom, and finds Hailie sitting on the bed, he quietly sits
down beside her, and looks in total disbelief at his little girl, and realizes
that she’s growing up, and right at that moment looks and is acting just like
him, which could be a problem.
“What?” Hailie roughly asks, after
a few minutes of silence between them and her Daddy’s stare starting to get to
her, but kinda of wonders if his eyes work on other people like they do her,
and will she be able to do it when she gets older.
“Nothing.” Marshall nonchalantly
says, as he eyes wonder to the floor.
“Thought you had something to do?”
Hailie innocently states, as she stands up, and moves to the front of him,
placing her small hands on his knees.
“Uh? . . . I do . . .
But I promise It won’t take long.” Marshall says, as he smiles at her.
“I’ve thought about it, and it’s
okay that you have to work. Carly will take me.” Hailie says with a smile.
“Shouldn’t you ask Carly first?”
Marshall asks, as Hailie just smiles.
“That’s what you’re going to do.”
Hailie states matter of factly,
“Why Me?” Marshall says with a
smile, but concern on how he was going to ask.
“Cause it’ll get you off the hook.
I could ask how your hands got hurt.” Hailie states, as she smiles, and gently
runs her little hand over his swollen right hand, as Marshall stops breathing.
“This is Blackmail!” Marshall
comments with a smile, as Hailie keeps smiling.
“Look at it like this, when she
brings me home, you can ask her on another date.” Hailie states, as she crawls
up on his lap, with his help.
“YOUR Six Years Old!” Marshall
states, more to convinces himself then to her.
“Almost Seven! But I’m not stupid!
You like her! So I’m going to help you.” Hailie states, as she rests her hands
on his shoulders, as she looks directly at him and smiles, and Marshall
nervously smiles back.
“Hailie . . . I wish it was that
simply . . .” Marshall starts to say, as Hailie interrupts.
“Daddy, just go ask her to take me
to the park, and leave the rest to me.” Hailie states with a smile, as thoughts
of his outburst earlier runs through Marshall’s mind.
“Alright!” Marshall says, as prays
to himself that Hailie’s plan works.
“I Love You.” Marshall sincerely
says, as he hugs her.
“I Love You More.” Hailie
sincerely says, as she hugs him and kisses him on the cheek, then gets down off
his lap and rushes to the door.
Marshall smiles, as he follows her
back to the living room.
