Marshall quietly thanking God walks into the house, as Box is coming down the large staircase.
“Barbara is putting Hailie to
bed.” Box states, as Marshall keeps walking towards the rec. room.
“Thanks.” Marshall quietly
mumbles, as he throws up his hand, as he slowly walking by Box.
Box watches Marshall walk into the
rec. room, then goes to find Paul and the rest of the gang.
Marshall walks into the rec. room
and slowly over to the bar and sits down, and rests his head in his hands, but
flinches when he feels the knot on his forehead. He slowly rubs his hands down
his face, as he takes several deep breaths, as he is straightening back up.
Even with the main lights off in
the room off, Marshall’s eyes fall on a bottle of Smirnoff on the shelf behind
the bar, and his mind drifts back to Carly calming her nerves.
Marshall slowly gets up and grabs
the bottle and stares at it a few minutes, then grabs a glass, and then flops
down on the large over stuffed sofa, in the middle of the room.
“Damn!” Marshall says out loud, as
images of Carly flow through his mind, as he leans his head back onto the sofa,
as he holds onto the bottle and glass, as Proof quietly comes into the room,
and watches him for a few seconds before sitting down beside him.
“You know drinking alone isn’t
fun, why don’t you come down stairs.” Proof says, as he looks over at Marshall,
who seems to not even know he’s in the room.
Marshall leans up and sets the
glass on the cocktail table and then cracks the seal on the Smirnoff, and pours
a large drink, and downs it quickly.
“Dawg! When did you start drinking
Smirnoff?” Proof asks, as he gets up and goes over and grabs a glass, deciding
to join Marshall in a drink.
“Carly.” Marshall simple states,
and then downs his second drink, as Proof pours himself a drink.
“She knows you’re crazy. Maybe a
real nice gift, and some serious begging, on your hands and knees. I take that
back LOTS of pleading and begging, and it wouldn’t hurt to throw in some tears,
and a note from a shrink.” Proof says, as Marshall downs two more drinks, as he
listens to Proof.
“Do you honestly think that would
work?” Marshall asks with half a laugh, as Proof holds his glass up to cheers.
“I’ve been such an asshole to
her.” Marshall says, as they cheers and he downs his fifth drink, as they hear
Hailie yelling for Marshall, as Aunt Barbara comes into the room with Hailie,
and clicks on the overhead light.
“Daddy! Daddy!” Hailie joyfully
screams, as she jumps into Marshall’s lap.
“Where’s Carly?” Hailie asks; as
Marshall takes a deep breathe.
“She . . . It was late so she went
home.” Marshall quickly says, not wanting to tell Hailie he’d been an asshole.
“I Love You!” Hailie says, as she
wraps her small arms around his neck, and squeezes, as he wraps his arms
tightly around her.
“What was that for?” Marshall
curiously asks, as Hailie gets comfortable in his lap.
“Because I Love You! Today was so
perfect, I had so much fun! MY BAG!” Hailie explains, and then spots her Harry
Potter bag on the cocktail table, and jumps down and grabs it.
“LOOK! I met Daniel Radcliffe and
he gave me his autograph. It’s the coolest autograph I’ve got!” Hailie joyfully
states, as she pulls the autograph card out of the bag and proudly shows it to
Marshall, as he scrunches up his face.
“I thought my autograph was the
coolest?” Marshall asks, as Hailie and Proof laughs.
“She can’t read yours.” Proof
jokily states, as Hailie proudly shows it to him.
“Your daddy it’s doesn’t count! I
got this one on my own, well with a little help from Carly. We need to get a
frame for it. Tomorrow!” Hailie says as she pulling a Harry Potter coloring
book, pencil, paper, note cards, trading cards and post cards from the bag,
with a large smile on her face, as she looks at each item, then hands it to
Marshall.
Marshall is totally amazed at how
excited Hailie is with her stuff, which she mostly likely already has in her
room, then it dawns on him that they’ve already seen a private screening of
Harry Potter, a movie that he had to sit three hours through.
“Hailie . . . did you go see Harry
Potter again?” Marshall curiously asks, as she looks up at him and smiles, as
Proof and him glance at each other simultaneously.
“Yeb! And on the way home we got
stuck in traffic and policemen had this man on the side of the road and had all
his stuff out in the road!” Hailie says excitedly in one continuous breath, as
Marshall gets a confused expression, as he glances over at Proof who smiles.
“Carly said that the man had been
bad, and I should ask you to explain more.” Hailie explains, as Marshall
glances again over at Proof with a large smile.
“Remind me to thank Carly.”
Marshall sarcastically comments, as Aunt Barbara comes back in the room, and
looks down at Hailie.
“Miss it’s past your bedtime.” Aunt
Barbara states, as Proofs cel-phone rings, and he answers it as he walks to the
other side of the room.
“Do I have too? I slept in the
car. I’m not sleepy. Can we call Carly and say goodnight?” Hailie pitifully
states, as she looks up at Marshall.
“Baby it’s late and you’ve had a
long day. We’ll call Carly tomorrow.” Marshall says, as he prays that Carly
will at least continue to be friends with Hailie.
“We’ll call her early and make her
come over for breakfast.” Hailie states, as Marshall drops the coloring book
and paper, that he was picking up to put back in the bag.
“I have to go!” Proof states with
urgency, as he crosses the floor and Marshall looks up at him, and can tell by
his expression that something is seriously wrong.
“WAIT!” Marshall says as he
stands, and Proof turns around and glances at him.
“I don’t have time. I have to go!”
Proof says, and then rushes from the room, and Marshall gets a nervous feel, as
he looks down at Hailie.
“Baby. I have to go see what’s
wrong with Uncle Proof. I Love You! Sweet Dreams and I’ll see you in the
morning.” Marshall sincerely says, as he knells down to Hailie, and she wraps
her small arms around his neck.
“I Love You More! Sweet Dreams!”
Hailie says, as they kiss and smile at each other, than Marshall stands and
smiles at Aunt Barbara, then quickly leaves the room.
Marshall rushes from the room and
Box quickly explains that Proof run from the house mumbling that he had to go.
Marshall quickly goes out side and sees Proof about to pull off in his car and
he quickly jumps in the passenger side, and looks over at Proof, who has a very
worried expression.
“Marshall You Can’t Go!” Proof
firmly states, as Marshall gets an even more confused expression.
“To Bad! I’m Going Anyway! Where
are we going?” Marshall firmly states, as he continues to stare at Proof.
“Marshall I don’t have time for
this shit just get the fuck out of the car and I’ll call you later.” Proof
states in anger, as Marshall takes a deep breathe.
“NO!” Marshall firmly states, as
Proof bangs his head on the stirring wheel.
“You’re gonna fuckin’ kill me! I
fucked up!” Proof states as he glances over at Marshall.
“Can we just get to were we need
to be! You can explain on the way, why I want to kill you.” Marshall says with
concern, as Proof takes a deep breath as he frantically dives off.
