Second Chance 18

Carly subconsciously rolls over and is startled awake by Elmo’s voice, and opens her eyes to bright red fur, and quickly sits up in the bed, to find Marshall sleeping on his side with his arm around Madison who is snuggled close to his chest also asleep.

Carly carefully lays back down praying to God that this second chance thing will work, but quickly realizes it’s Monday morning, and that she has to get up, but stretches her neck up to look at the clock on the nightstand, and smiles realizing she has at least another fifteen minutes to enjoy the scene before her.

After thirty minutes of just laying and watching their chests rising and falling with each breathe, Carly places a kiss on both their foreheads and drags herself from the bed, knowing she’s definitively going to be late, smiling she quietly places her pillows on her side of the bed, just in case Madison would wake before Marshall, but kinda of laughs to herself knowing both of them like to sleep, and that the world could come to an end and neither of them would even roll over.

After going down stairs and starting the coffee she takes a shower, and quietly goes back in the bedroom to grab clothes for the day, but stops and watches them sleep for a few more seconds wishing she could have it this perfect all the time, then spots the camcorder on the dresser and how she could capture this moment for every, and quickly picks it up and begins filming. After filming for a few minutes Carly turns off the camcorder and quietly puts it back on the dresser, and grabs clothes for the day and goes to the bathroom to dress, then down to the kitchen to for a quick breakfast and to call Dru.

“Hello?” Dru says in a sleepily tone as she picks up the phone.

“Morning!” Carly cheerfully says into the phone.

“Carly?” Dru asks as she sits up in the bed.

“Yeah.” Carly says pouring a cup of coffee.

“I assumed that you wouldn’t go to work today.” Dru says as she is pulling herself out of the bed.

“Well I am, just gonna be a little late.” Carly says.

“Where’s Marshall?” Dru curiously asks.

“Asleep.” Carly simply says.

“Where?” Dru curiously asks.

“In the attic.” Carly jokily comments with a laugh, as she is picking out Madison’s breakfast and lunch.

“Very Funny. Must be in your bed, cause you’re awful cheerer this morning. To damn cheerer.” Dru says, never really liking cheerer morning people.

“No it’s not like that. But it’s amazing how bright the world looks when there are no secret.” Carly sincerely explains, as she is fixing a bowl of cereal.

“Girl you can’t tell me that you slept in the bed with Marshall and didn’t get any.” Dru says.

“I didn’t! I fell asleep.” Carly defensively says, as Dru laughs.

“You’ve got to be the strangest woman I know!” Dru comments with a laugh.

“But you love me. Anyway I’m going to work sometime today. Should I just let them sleep or should I wake them. I really don’t think I’m going to work all day. I should just stay home but there is so much to do. I could work at home.” Carly says, trying to figure out what to do in her head.

Carly gets off the phone and writes down phone numbers to the office, her cell phone and Dru’s and at the top of the paper in large numbers 911, then begins to eat her cereal.

“Heah! How did I get here?” Madison asks waking and realizing he’s in Mommy’s bed, grabbing Elmo.

“Open your eyes.” Madison states placing his little finger on Marshall’s closed eyes.

“Mommy! I’m Wet!” Madison firmly states as he struggles to get out from under Marshall’s heavy arm.

Marshall is abruptly awakened by small fingers poking his eyelids, and he quickly sits up in the bed and looks around the room, as Madison calls out for his Mommy.

“Morning.” Marshall tenderly whispers lying back down on his side and looking at Madison, who is holding tightly to Elmo.

“Morning. I’m wet!” Madison says crawling up on Marshall.

“Ooooo . . . . . somebody is wet . . . . I’m wet.”  Marshall quickly comments’ realizing everything is wet and he must not have fastened the diaper right in the middle of the night when he went to get Madison from his crib.

“I told you! Where’s Mommy?” Madison says bouncing on Marshall, trying to hurry the getting up part.

“Where’s Mommy?” Marshall asks with a laugh, as Madison continues to bounce.

“You’re repeating everything I say. You’re not too bright in the morning are you?” Madison says as Marshall struggles to unwrap himself from the blankets and gets out of bed, and looks down at Madison who has a large smile on his face.

“Come On let’s go find Mommy.” Marshall says picking him up, and then goes to find Carly.

“Morning.” Carly says leaning against the kitchen counter eating a bowl of cereal, as Marshall comes into the room with Madison on his hip.

“I wanna a bite.” Madison quickly says, leaning towards Carly.

“Morning . . . . . we have a problem.” Marshall says with a laugh leaning in and kissing her cheek.

“We’re both wet and so is the bed.” Marshall says with a laugh, as Carly is feeding Madison a small bite of her cereal that mushy.

“I’m not the one that got up in the middle of the night and put him in bed with us.” Carly states as she feeding Marshall a bite of her cereal.

“So that’s how I got there. Thanks I really like sleepy in Mommy’s big bed.” Madison says with a smile.

“I tried to change his diaper with just that little light.” Marshall explains, after swallowing the mouth full of cereal.

“I’m going to work. Do you want me to take him over to Dru’s or can you handle it?” Carly sarcastically asks, placing the empty bowl in the sink and then taking Madison from him.

“I’m thirsty.” Madison states.

“Work?” Marshall asks, following her to the nursery.

“Yes Work! That thing people do from nine to five.” Carly sarcastically explains as she is placing Madison in the crib and then quickly rushing to the bathroom for a washcloth.

“If I tell Mommy not to go to work, I’ll get in trouble so you have to help me.” Marshall whispers to Madison as he is taking off his wet t-shirt and dropping it to the floor.

“I’ve tried everything to get Mommy to stay home.” Madison explains as Marshall begins taking his wet pajamas off, and drops them to the floor with his t-shirt.

“Throw a fit, cry, scream do what ever you gotta do. I got your back.” Marshall whispers, throwing the diaper in the little trashcan beside the changing table.

“The only times Mommy stays home is when I have to go to the doctor. And I’m Not Going To The Doctors.” Madison firmly explains, as Marshall picks him up as Carly is coming back in the room.

“Hold up where you goin’?” Carly quickly asks, as Marshall turns around with Madison in his arms.

“I thought he was getting a bath.” Marshall says, placing him back in the crib.

“We’re going to wipe him off, put a fresh diaper on, feed breakfast. And then give him a bath.” Carly explains as she is wiping Madison off.

“You might wanna take notes on this part.” Carly says laughing as she is struggling to puts a fresh diaper on a very squirming Madison.

“Maybe you should stay home . . . Just for the Day.” Marshall carefully comments, moving in behind her, and she glances back at him.

“You know to teach me how to do all this stuff . .  . I’m a real slow leaner . . . . . . I have to have that one on one teaching . . . Lots Of It.” Marshall seductively explains, wrapping his arms around her, and slowly kissing the back of her neck, her trying to ignore him putting a t-shirt on Madison.

“I need Juice!” Madison states several times.

“Oh really.” Carly comments turning in his arms, resting her arms on his bare muscular chest, as Madison is struggling to stand up in the crib holding onto the side.

“Heah People! What about My Juice?” Madison agitatedly states, beginning to shake the side of the crib to get their attention.

“Yes really. Lots of One on One.” Marshall seductively whispers as he begins kissing her neck again.

“It’s the same Daddy stuff you did with Hailie.” Carly struggles to say, slightly pushing him away.

“What Daddy Stuff?” Madison asks, continuing to shake the side of the crib.

“Hailie is a girl and it’s been a long time since I changed diapers. And Madison is a boy.” Marshall explains, and Carly starts laughing at his reasoning, as she glances back at Madison and can see attitude building in his perfect blue eyes.

“Alright! You handle your son’s attitude and I’ll call the office and let them know I’m not coming.” Carly says patting Marshall on the chest and starts to leave, but he quickly grabs her and kisses her passionately, as Madison voices his opinion on being ignored.

“It’s still early.” Marshall whispers slowly letting go of her and winks with a wicked grin, and she slowly leaves the room, telling herself to breath.

“Alright Son! Let’s not destroy the bed. You ready for breakfast?” Marshall says, picking Madison up, loving the sound of son.

“I’ve Been Ready For Breakfast! I’m thirsty!” Madison states as they head to the kitchen.

Marshall puts Madison down on the floor, and opens the refrigerator.

“Whacha want apple, cranberry or one of these pouches?” Marshall asks as he carefully watches Madison pull himself up with the help of his sweatpants.

“The pouch. And don’t need a cup.” Madison says heading to the cabinets, always wanting to know what was in them.

“Hold Up. I don’t think Mommy wants you playing in there.” Marshall says, quickly picking him up, just as he opened the cabinet door.

“Heah! This anit fair!” Madison states as Marshall puts him in the highchair then goes back to opening the pouch of juice and pouring it into a cup.

“I really need to tell you something.” Marshall says as he hands Madison the cup of juice.

“Thank You.” Madison politely says as he takes the cup, and quickly takes a drink, as Marshall slides a chair over in front of him, and sits down.

“Mommy and me . . . . . Long time ago before you were born . . . . . not really that long ago. It doesn’t matter about the time.  Anyway Mommy and Me know each other . . . . . . I Love Your Mommy! I Love You Too! I’m really sorry I haven’t been around, but starting today I’m going to be around a lot! Well as much as your Mommy will let me . . . . It’s like this . . . .” Marshall struggles to explain, trying to figure out the best way to say what he needs to say, but stops and takes a deep breath.

“You’re my Daddy.” Madison calmly says, knowing he’ll be in college if he waited for his Daddy to finish rambling.

“Yeah . . . I’m your Daddy.” Marshall says with a smile, agreeing with the baby talk.

“Finally! What a drink.” Madison says holding his cup out to Marshall, as Carly walks into the room.

“I Love You.” Carly whispers walking up behind him and leaning over draping her arms over his shoulders, and placing a kiss on his cheek.

“Do you think he understood?” Marshall pitifully asks, as they both look at Madison.

“What are you people staring at? Is my hair sticking up funny?” Madison asks, as he stares back at them.

Marshall he’s eleven months old.” Carly says, and places another kiss on his check, and then walks over to the counter.

“Mommy and Daddy! I understand more than both of you think!” Madison says with a giggle, as both them look at him then at each other, both hearing the Mommy and Daddy very clearly, and both of them wondering.
